Planning your 2018 Gold Coast Sporting Event Experience

From the 4th to the 15th April 2018, the Commonwealth will be watching as Queensland’s sparkling Gold Coast plays host to an exhilarating array of professional games and sporting events, including but not limited to: athletics, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, cycling, diving, gymnastics, hockey, lawn bowls, netball, rugby, swimming, triathlon and weight lifting.

For sports fans, whether athletics enthusiasts or gymnastics gawkers, with less than three months to go until the opening ceremony, it’s now time to get your tickets for the games organised. As advertised on the official website: this is your last chance to buy tickets, as the final major tickets release are now on sale.

Already gotten your tickets to the badminton sorted? Great. Next question: how will you get there? Cramped on public transport like a chump? Stuck in traffic on the M1 (and don’t even get me started on parking)?

Why not fly over all of the chaos of getting there, and arrive at the Gold Coast by helicopter? Pterodactyl Helicopters (and our partners, Monarc Aviation) have organised an exclusive landing site close to Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast that we are offering to you – our celebrities. Take the hassle out of how you will get to the Games on the Gold Coast and just get on, soak up the atmosphere, appreciate the athletics, savour the swimming, and cheer on the cyclists.

All enquiries regarding helicopter transfers to and from the Gold Coast can be made by calling +61 7 3201 0005, or you can fill out the form on our Gold Coast 2018 Helicopter Transfer page and we’ll call you.

We look forward to making your journey a truly memorable sporting experience.

Wivenhoe water release (Wild Rivers) flights

WE’VE all been in awe of the floodwater in our region this week but as these photos show, the view from above is the most awesome.

We are running Wild Rivers flights while the rivers are in full flood. It’s a very small window of opportunity so we think it’s something quite special.

We fly over Colleges Crossing, Mt Crosby Weir, along the rivers over Kholo Bridge, Lake Manchester, Savages Crossing and Wivenhoe Dam wall.

It is fantastic, The picture shows one perspective but from the air you see the whole river in flood. “The amazing thing is the difference between what it’s like now and what it’s like normally.

The power of water when it’s in flood is the most impressive thing, especially when you see the speed it travels. But the most outstanding thing was the power of water coming out of that dam.

Seqwater said five gates at Wivenhoe Dam would stay open this weekend with a release volume of 130,000 mega litres per day. Releases from Wivenhoe are expected to continue to at least Monday.

The Weather Channel said an abnormal clash of weather systems caused eastern Australia to be dumped by heavy rainfall but was likely to clear for the weekend.

A one-hour Wild River flight costs $580 we can take 2 passengers for this price with a maximum passenger weight of 130kg.
